(276-278) Works of Love V

For Love Prevents it from Coming into Being, Smothers it at Birth

The sin that's in us waits for an occasion

A time and place of opportunity

From commandment or prohibition it might come

Thus these make for sin's perpetuity

Commandment and prohibition become an occasion

Thus they show their inherent futility

For sin must come from all repression

Love gives no occasion for its multiplicity

We can imprison and restrain

With one coercion or another

Still sin's active and remains

But by love it's always smothered

At birth the sin must perish

So a sinful thought just fades away

Not something that we choose to cherish

So the sin just will not stay

Sin must have some stimulation

We must provide it sustenance

When in love we find emulation

It makes for effortless resistance

When love is what is prevalent

Sin loses its imagination

It simply is irrelevant

Love makes the best of all protection

So love hides sin's multiplicity

What's not born is thus unseen

A life of sin is lived so squalidly

A life of love makes all things clean
