Love Abides

So ...  love abide{s}.  (I Corinthians 13: 13)

Love abides our friend Søren says

Even in our worst despondency

He knows and does not guess

He writes his thoughts responsibly

That love abides can bring us comfort

Even in our worst denial

Love consoles and gives its support

Makes possible our survival

Despondency is not depression

It need not be medicated

Stems from the great repression

On which our culture's predicated

Whenever the world offers us neglect

In the face of some vast indifference

If others will not acknowledge debt

Our striving's thwarted by interference

Modern isolation can breed despondency

Wherein all our hope seems lost

Still we strive for love in honesty

And love abides in us no matter cost

No human being can love embody

But we all can serve as lovers

The middle term brings this loving quality

So that we can clearly see each other

As love abides within a person

In that person love can strive

No matter how much things can worsen

The thought of love will always thrive
