At Rest?

Being alone

is like gravity

pulling one into the spiral

of darkness

but being alone is still better

then being at home

with an abuser

drowning in their fever dream

a marriage of love and pain

Slogging along against the river of style

is a good way to get pointed at

and admired as a failure

like a poorly done drawing

in the discount bin at dollarama

but is still better than paying twenty percent

interest on a credit card bill you can’t afford

Sputtering along in an old car

that looks out of place in the line up of the successful

SUVs that sit in the Wal-mart parking lot

doesn’t make you look hot

even though the sun is still beating down

drawing a picture of sweat

but making do with a rusted out Trabant

is still better than paying for something

that cannot make you content
