How Do I Get Out of Here?

Image

Alone

is a feeling like nothing

in an empty house

creaking

in the distance, a siren is crying

and I see you, huddled and trembling

pain has chased you through your years of living

your father used you

and now you are using

your mother didn’t care

and now you are uncaring

even as the neighborhood outside is collapsing

and fear drives your voice to a whisper

a prayer

is there a savior

for a city drowning in fire

is there someone out there

beyond these ruins of perverse desire

giving in

seems like the in thing

but I am here, in the hallway, waiting

going along

with everything, doesn’t numb the longing

for long

I am knocking

you know, giving up

won’t get you out of here

what if you would stand up, and open the door

to the Jesus that you’ve been looking for
