THE LEAVES KEEP CHANGING COLOURS

Candice James

Copyright 1987

I’ve had friends I thought were golden

But they only let me down

In my times of greatest sorrow

Not one friend could be found

I’ve had love that I could borrow

Today but not tomorrow

I’ve cried tears that burned my face

And tears are sad to waste

Now the years are windblown pages

And my hair has turned to gray

It’s strange how love comes and goes

Yet always fades away

New wounds cut just as deep

When promises don’t keep

Memories are frozen in their frame

Inside life’s hurting game

The leaves keep changing colours

And life is almost gone

I can feel the chill of winter

With it’s wind so swift and strong

The days of fleeting sunshine

Are gone, they just flew by

Friends are lost and so are lovers

And the leaves are fading colours

Yes the leaves keep changing colours

Passing swiftly through the years.

Changing friends and changing lovers

Til all that’s left are tears.
