Concussion

Remember To Send for Help – Call an Ambulance

 

Signs & Symptoms of Concussion

  • Loss of consciousness
  • Confusion and disorientation / poor concentration
  • Memory loss / amnesia
  • Fatigue and tiredness / headaches / visual problems

Treatment

Conscious Patient

  • DRSABCD
  • If the patient shows signs of concussion they must seek medical assistance

Unconscious Patient

  • If the patient has suffered a blow to the head it is possible there may be a spinal injury
  • Check for a response
  • If breathing normally, carefully place them into the recovery position (try and keep the head and neck in neutral alignment)
  • Monitor the patient’s breathing
  • If breathing stops start CPR
  • If the patient is bleeding from the head arrest the flow using minimal direct pressure
  • If fluid flows out of the ears cover with a sterile dressing
