Spinal Injuries

Remember To Send for Help – Call an Ambulance

img19.png If you suspect the person has a spinal injury do not move them unless it is absolutely necessary

img19.png If the patient has had a fall from over 3 metres or has sustained a significant blow to the head always suspect a spinal injury

img19.png If there is obvious deformity of the neck do not try to straighten it.

img19.png If there is no obvious deformity keep the patient still with their head in the neutral position

img19.png Lay the patient flat on the floor and place a rolled up towel on either side of the head, instruct the patient to remain still

img19.png If the person has breathing difficulties, is choking or becomes unconscious, put them into the recovery position

img19.png If possible get help. Ideally you will need at least two people. One to control the head and keep it in the neutral position and one to roll the person into the recovery position
