Chapter 4: How Physical Attraction Works
“It’s wonderful what a little determined charm can do.”
- Noel Coward
When soccer-loving Chris graduated from high school in his native Chicago, he wasn’t one of the more good-looking boys in his class. Though he was a jock, unfortunately he looked
like a 1980s nerd. He had a mop of hair that looked more like a woman’s bob. He also wore glasses, with thick frames, which effectively drew attention away from his eyes. Needless to say, he didn’t get a lot of attention from the girls. As a result, Chris was painfully shy.
Behind his nerdy looks and shyness, however, Chris harbored a beautiful pop-tenor voice and a talent for musical composition. He played the piano and wrote songs in his spare time at home.
It took him a while to figure it out, but finally he realized that he would be happiest making use of his talents for the rest of his life. When it was time for college, his parents were very supportive of him and agreed to fund his education in theater arts.
So Chris went off to college—and took his nerdy looks with him.
