The doorbell went and there was a delivery guy with a large bouquet of flowers at the door, the drizzly rain from outside blowing its way in. I almost rolled my eyes, thinking they might be from Dave again and that he was a bit much to be honest.

There were mostly red roses and a few green leaves in- between. Christine stopped what she was doing, which was measuring the wall for a new painting that had come in. The place in the room for a certain piece was always very important. The lighting and where it stood or what it hung close to in the room. It always needed space in order not to be distracted by some other piece that might drown it.

Christine’s expression was of both curiosity and disgust. The delivery man walked into the room, looked at me and said: “Christine Adams?” I raised my eyebrows and half smiled whilst gesturing towards Christine, who had changed her expression to a wide eyed happy glow that made her instantly looking a few years younger. She rushed over and grabbed hold of them searching for a note. When she found it her smile widened, a smile I had never seen on her before, she looked quite pretty.

“Who is it from?” I asked not being able to contain my curiosity. Christine looked up, first at me and then at the delivery man.

“Thank you.”

“No problem ms Adams, have a nice day,” he said as he walked back out into the drizzly grey weather. Flowers were needed on a day like this.

She smelled the flowers as she closed her eyes. “It’s just a new friend. He’s very kind.”

“I can see that. I reckon someone has a crush on you.” I said smiling at her. She flushed and looked slightly
