“This is gorge!”

I looked at her with a frown.

“But Lisa, it’s a live band we’re going to see, isn’t this too dressed up?”

“What? No way! I’m wearing my little red dress. Come on Alex, you only live once!”

I took a deep breath.

“I’d rather wear jeans and a top.” Lisa rolled her eyes.

“OK fine. But I’m afraid I’m gonna have to insist on high heels and a sexy top then. Like this one.” She grabbed hold of a black glittery top that also went lower at the back and was a little ruffled at the front. “And these shoes.” She held out a pair of my highest heels, a black velvety pair. “Oh and you’ll need this bag and these earrings.” She seemed to be in a sort of zone, but Lisa had always had a good eye for fashion and putting together an outfit. She handed over a little black clutch bag with a silver top and the earrings were long dangly ones. She also handed over a couple of bracelets, also silver. I tried it all on and was quite pleased.

“Thanks Lisa, you’re the best. Just my makeup and hair needing done and that’s me.”

“Yep, I’m off to get ready, be about half an hour. Let’s have a glass of wine before we head out yeah?”

“Definitely! I’ll meet you in the kitchen in a bit.”

I was starting to get that excited going out feeling. It was nice to have plans. It would hopefully take my mind off Peter. Maybe if I had other things than work to do I’d get distracted enough to wake up from my fantasy. The thought alone made me feel bad, like I was cheating on Peter or something. “Get a grip!” I told myself out loud.
