little taller. Lisa tapped me on the shoulder.

“Oh my God! Alex! That’s Dave? He’s gorgeous! And so well mannered. What a catch!”

Chris looked slightly annoyed and Lisa noticed. “Well, at least he seems great.” She continued. “What

do you think Chris?”

Chris, being a man that was so obviously trying to impress Lisa and wanting to seem better than any other guy there said: “Well, yeah sure, but I mean, we barely know the guy, he could have skeletons in the cupboard or something.”

“Yeah, suppose, but he might not have skeletons either.

He might be good enough for our Alex?” she said emphasizing the word ’might’.

Chris lightened up from that comment, Lisa saying it like that meant she had clearly though of Dave as strictly for me and there would be no competition with him.

“Yeah, he might be, we’ll have to wait and see,” he said standing a little taller. “He’ll have to pass the friendship test first though.” He winked at me as I gave him a sarcastic glare.

We stood by the bar chatting about music and Chris was telling Lisa more about the band and our encounter with them at their last gig. We were on our third drink and people were piling in. We took our drinks and walked to the other room where the band was going to play. It was a low arched ceiling in stone with a stage below. People had started coming in as the gig was about to start. They were a little late on, it was ten past as they walked out on stage.

The room had filled up and it was pretty packed. A tall guy stood in front of Lisa so we moved, Chris grabbed her hand and led her forward a little. They were getting on so well. They’d been too drunk to notice each other last time
