I was already feeling quite tipsy from the drinks I’d had so far but agreed to let him buy me another when I was done with the one I had.

“I’ll be right back, I just need to help the band with the loading, will you stay for a while?” He looked at me with hope in his eyes.

“Yeah, of course,” I said.

He smiled and headed off. Chris made a short laugh after he left and I looked at him wondering what snide comment he was about to make.

“Alex, he seems really into you…like way in.” My cheeks flushed.

“What do you mean?” I said waving my hand in dismissal.

“Trust me, I know when a guy wants a girl for sex and when he wants the girl for love. That dude looks at you like he likes the person inside. Think this might be a good one.”

I felt a twist of guilt in my stomach. Dave seemed truly great. On paper he seemed like the perfect guy for me and part of me loved it, it made me feel special. Another part of me was thinking of Peter.

Lisa cut in: “Yeah Alex, you should really go for it. What do you have to lose? He clearly adores you.”

I nodded whilst biting my lip. Chris noticed and added. “Alex, remember what we talked about? Just have fun

“Yeah, sure, I’ll have fun, I mean, he’s great. You’re right.”
