“Yes, yes I do. I’ve never seen one though. Or at least I don’t think so. Do you?”

He took a deep breath.

“I think I’ve met one. I only feel awake when you’re here, but once when I was somewhere in this world and you weren’t here, a light being came to see me. I don’t know if I was imagining it, but I felt like I had a choice to make. That I had to let go to be able to move on to where I was meant to be. I told her that I wasn’t going to leave you. I’ve never felt happier than I feel when I’m with you.”

That felt strange, why would my mind ever want to get rid of Peter? In my waking hours I had really tried to put my dreams behind me but in my dreams, when I was with him, I didn’t ever want him to leave. In fact, I was quite happy to never have a relationship in my waking hours if it meant I could see Peter in my dreams every night for the rest of my life.

“Well, where did she want to take you?” I asked, feeling slightly annoyed at anybody or anything that would want to take him away from me.

“I don’t know. But it wasn’t anything I felt afraid of. It doesn’t matter anyway, I just want to stay here with you.” He smiled at me and tightened his hug making it feel like we belonged together.

“That singing sure sounds like angels though,” I added. “Yeah, it does.”

From far away, I heard a whisper of my name, ’Alex’ . A soothing female voice. I listened, it was quiet for a few seconds and then I heard it again.

“You OK?” Peter asked, noticing how I was lifting my head up to listen.

“Do you hear that?”
