“Oh, gosh, no biggie. So anyway, me and Chris were talking and we were thinking that maybe we could go for a drink tonight, or watch a movie and get a take away?

You’re choice.”

“You two seem to be getting along like a house on fire, weren’t you suppose to meet tomorrow?”

“Well yeah, but this is like an emergency and we both care about you and decided today was better. Chris even canceled his plans for tonight. So it’s us, the three musketeers, and tonight is dedicated to you my dear.”

I couldn’t help but smile, which felt a bit weird with my stiff facial muscles but it felt good too. Feeling a little relieved that I wasn’t completely dead on the inside. I didn’t want to go out, but having my best buddies home tonight felt needed.

“Can we be at our flat then? And yeah, maybe watch a movie and get take out,” I said, not sure I would be hungry by then but playing along. I was standing at the front of the queue, the waiter looking at me with a half smile and raised eyebrows as if to say ’there is a queue behind you, get off the phone’.

“Absolutely,” I heard Lisa say. “Got to go, see you back home.” “OK, bye!”

We hung up and I ordered two coffees to go. As I grabbed the coffees and turned to leave, the guy I had seen from the café down the road that was writing a book was looking at me from a square table near the entrance.

“Hi Alex!”

“Hi,” I said forcing a half smile, which felt a little easier now that Lisa had made me smile. ”How’s your book going?”

“Oh great thanks. Ideas are flooding my pages now.
