would be great. To Jason I replied that he would get a lovely punch in the face as a birthday present and not a cherry red Ferrari, as he had hoped for. Sarcasm drenching every word. He’d be sitting in his pub laughing at that and then come up with a smart reply. I had to think a little before writing to Dave. I was still very conflicted about the whole situation with him. The last kiss had been lovely and nobody should let a guy who’s that great go.

Could feelings grow? It took about half an hour before I replied back. What harm was a dinner? He was quite fun to hang with, a perfect gentleman, so why was I making a big deal out of it? I replied back that it would be lovely and that I’d see him on Friday, and left it at that.

It was getting close to twelve noon when I started getting ready to go out for some lunch. I heard a knock on the front door and in walked my mum, wearing a long dark green coat. I wasn’t sure why she had come but I could guess and I wasn’t excited about it.

“Mum,” I said putting on a fake smile. “What are you doing here?”

“Hello darling, she said as she walked up to the back of the gallery where I was standing putting on my black fitted coat. “Well, I thought since we didn’t get to spend much time together yesterday, maybe we could grab a quick lunch before I head back to work. I took a chance that you might be having lunch now and it looks like I was right?”

I had been looking forward to a quiet lunch to myself in some cosy café but I didn’t have the heart to say no.

“Yeah, I am getting ready to go for lunch. Guess we could get a bite to eat together, there’s a nice café around the corner.”
