“Emma?”

“Yeah, I’m here.”

She was slurring her words and I heard echoing, like she was in a stairwell, then I heard traffic. I had started to feel worried as soon as I’d heard her voice on the other end of the phone but my worrying was increasing and I was finding it hard to sound calm as I spoke to her.

“Emma, can you see a street sign or a shop or something?”

“mm…”

I heard some male voice in the background. “Alright love, lost are we? I’ll help ya out darling.” He said in a broad Scottish accent. The way he said it was

dirty, like he was planning to take advantage of my sister. I felt anger rising within me and I thought of the man who had mugged me.

“Emma, is there a pub nearby?” “Erm…yeah.”

“Run into it now OK, then find out what it’s called.” “OK.”

“Hey darling, where you going, come here, I’ll show you a good time.” He had a high pitched laughter, like he’d just made the best joke of the year, but he sounded further away now thankfully. If he was still there once I arrived I would happily punch the guy in the face…hard! And this time I wouldn’t be paralyzed by fear as I had been with the mugger.

The sound of the cars were replaced by people talking and loud music playing in the background.

“Emma, ask someone what that bar is called.” “What? Oh…OK.”

I heard her moving, or maybe it was people walking past her, I couldn’t tell.
