hair, she was slim and dressed very proper.

“Hello darling, how are you?” she said with a smile. “I’m good,” I replied

“Your father's in the kitchen with your brother drinking whisky, would you like a glass of wine?”

“Yes please,” I said with a smile.

We walked into the large size kitchen which had a big wooden table right in the middle. My parents both liked to cook, especially dad, but tonight it appeared as if mum was the cook for the evening.

“Hi dad,” I said as I walked up to him and gave him a hug where he was sitting.

“Hello darling, how's my beautiful daughter?” ”Hi sis! What's up?” Jason cut in

“I’m good dad, hi ’J’,” I said as I walked over to my brother and also gave him a wee hug.

“Where’s Emma?”

Mum looked over at me from pouring a glass of wine by the counter.

“She’s in her room, not sure what she's doing in there but she's in a bit of a mood and didn't want to hang out with your father and I.”

“Why?” I asked

“Well she wanted to go on a date with a seventeen year old boy and we said no, so she's not very happy about that.”

“Ah OK, I'll talk to her.”

I'd always been the one my little sister could talk to, sometimes I'd roll my eyes but I had a way of getting through to her and making her see things a little clearer. She looked up to me which helped.

Mum handed me a glass of red wine, then walked to the stove and continued her cooking.
