magazines and other things we needed to get done.

It was ten thirty when I heard the door open and presumed it was the mailman because I wasn’t expecting anyone else. I looked up and saw a slender woman, nicely dressed, standing beside a man. He was the same length as the woman, with dark short hair, taut body and a kind face.

“Mum, dad!” I said cheerfully. “I wasn’t expecting you.”

“Hello darling,” my mum said as she came up and gave me a hug. “We were in town, we’ve been to Jenner’s, they had a sale on and you never know what you may find. As we both have a day off we thought we’d have a wander. It was your father’s idea to come see you. I thought we might interrupt you but he insisted, so here we are,” she smiled happily.

My dad had hugged me whilst mum was talking. ”There aren’t many paintings up, are you selling

much?”

“Well, we’re having an art exhibition in three weeks and we haven’t got everything sent to us yet.”

My dad looked around.

“Are these the paintings you were talking about?” He gestured toward a painting with two women with large eyes divided in the middle in an ’s’ shape.

“Yes, they are. What do you think?” I asked enthusiastically.

“They certainly look interesting. Very good,” my dad said as my mum nodded her head in approval. Then looked back at me.

“We were hoping you would have lunch with us? If you’re not busy, say twelve o’clock?”
