Chapter 28: Family

Kam drove the van himself this time. The child never woke up as she was put into a reclining seat. The adult seat belt was fixed to fit her. Given her full werebear shifting ability, she does not need a car seat. The young werewolves can not shift, until puberty, so must have a car seat for the protection it gives.

He pulled the van into the driveway behind the car. He knocks the signal and the woman got out. The four wolves stood by the van, blocking Kam from view somewhat, the bears went to the door. The mom took off her daughter's nightgown and had her shift. Then, she knock on the door. The door opened and the woman looked at the cub.

"Your daughter was not the only child bitten by that bear. It bit forty others before it was killed. Myself and my daughter among them. Come with us to live together."

The woman asks, "did you take my husband away?"

The mom states, "we live with the wolves that did. He is breaking the law selling drugs and the police can't stop him. They killed the bear, to stop it from biting more people, and have your husband locked up, were he can no longer hurt anyone."

The woman states, "I'll go pack and get my daughter."

The mom states, "you only need a few days worth. They will buy everything you need and give you a house."

The woman heads away and closes the door behind her. The mom tells her daughter to shift and slips her nightgown, on afterwards. She puts her daughter back into the seat before waiting by the door.

When the woman comes out with her sleeping daughter, the wolves go into the back of the van. The mom takes the bag the woman is carrying and follows her to the van. Amy was just reclining a seat for the daughter. Before the woman can say anything about it, she states, "infants that can shift heal all wounds and can handle crashes without car seats."

She lets the woman put her daughter into the seat. Followed by making the seat belt fit the child's size. Amy leaves to sit across from Cindi, as the woman sits across from her daughter. Kam's mom pulls the doors shut and moves to her sit at the front. She knocks on the wall so Kam starts the van and heads back north.

Most of the woman joined the girls in sleep on the long trip north. Kam does a short circle as no cars are on the roads he is traveling. They arrive at his condo at three thirty in the early morning. They all get out of the back and, those living there, head inside. Kam introduces himself as her new leader. Kam points to the cellar door and whispers, "your husband is down there. Do not touch the bars, as they burn our skin." He continues upstairs and opens a door to show the family a spare bedroom in his condo. His mom brings their bag. "Your husband's gang is looking for us so do not leave this street. All of the condos on it have members of our pack. A pack is more extended family than some other grouping.”
