Favicon is the little image icon which appears in the browser tab for specific website. By default your website favicon is set to the HostGator logo, which you are going to replace with your own one.
Open a new tab in your browser and go to http://www.freefavicon.com/freefavicons/
You will see a list of some of the most popular ones. You can also go to the “Free Favicons” drop menu above, and brows by categories. I decided to go with the one called “Earth”.
When you find one that you like, just click on the link underneath “Download this favicon” and save it to your computer.
The file will be a ZIP file. You want to unzip the file in a new folder named Favicon.
There will be several different images, and each one will be the same image in different resolutions.
In our theme setting the maximum resolution is 64x64 pixels. So you want to upload the image that has that same resolution. The name of the image you need should consist of the number 64. In this instance the name of the Earth favicon is “earth-64-3320”
Go back to Appearance /Nirvana Settings /HEADER SETTINGS and under the FAVICON UPLOAD click on the SELECT / UPLOAD IMAGE button.
Follow the same steps that you already learned when you uploaded your logo. From your Media Library go to Upload Files, click SELECT FILES, find and select the image “earth-64-3320” on your computer, click INSERT INTO POST scroll down and click on SAVE CHANGES.
When you go back to your website and refresh it, you can see that now your favicon appears in the tab for your website.
