You Shall Love
Love does not originate
From the human heart
It’s divine here I can stipulate
And has been from the start
The act of love made in creation
Sprang from the divine
Universal in its intention
Eternal love would shine
If we could hear and we could feel
That would broaden our perceptions
Everyone's neighbor would become so real
That we should love them without exceptions
Such a choice would make our world alive
Filled with love's expanding opportunities
Each and all would finally thrive
In our diversity and our unity
If we perceive love as our invention
Something exclusive and just human
It's time to fulfill our love's intention
Find our neighbors and pursue them
Eliminate the I and It
As Buber would have us choose
The I and Thou are a better fit
We have nothing there to lose
Even if God we have abandoned
We can still listen to these words
Make of them each day's companion
They'll change our lives when heard
