Eye Injuries

Remember To Send for Help – Call an Ambulance

 

Note

If there is an object imbedded in the eye Do Not Try to Remove It.

Signs and Symptoms

  • Pain and irritation
  • Swelling around the eye
  • Eye watering
  • Blood in the white of the eye

Treatment

Chemical Burns

  • DRSABCD
  • Keep eye open to stop the chemical being trapped inside
  • Flush the eye with clean water for 20 minutes
  • Place a clean, light dressing over the eye
  • Seek medical help

Foreign Objects Embedded

  • DRSABCD
  • Cover the eye with a shield so you can leave the object in place and have no pressure on it. (The base of a paper cup or similar works well)
  • Bandage everything in place making sure there is NO PRESSURE on the eye
  • Seek professional medical care
