Febrile convulsions can be frightening but Do Not lead to further health problems and will generally finish without treatment
Febrile Convulsions
- Are triggered by fever and tend to accompany common childhood illnesses such as the flu, a cold or an ear infection
- They are generally brief and will not last more than 5 minutes
Signs and Symptoms
- Fever
- Difficulty breathing
- May be a bluish tinge to the lips and face
- Muscular contractions of the limbs, face and trunk
Treatment
During Convulsions
- Put the child on the floor to prevent injury
- Position them on their stomach or side to prevent choking
- Do not hold or restrain the child during convulsions
After Convulsions
