Heat Stroke

Remember To Send for Help – Call an Ambulance

 

Note

Heat Stroke is a Medical Emergency, if the person becomes unconscious or has a seizure Call an Ambulance Immediately

Signs and Symptoms of Heat Stroke

  • Body Temperature 40 degrees or above
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Not sweating despite the high temperature
  • Hot, red and dry skin
  • Muscle cramps or weakness
  • Nausea and vomiting

Treatment

  • DRSABCD
  • It is important to cool the person down. Move them out of the sun.
  • Remove any excess clothing
  • Put them in a cool tub of water or in the shower, spray them with a garden hose, sponge them down, place ice packs wrapped in a cloth or cold wet towels around the person’s head, neck, armpits and groin.
  • If the person’s condition worsens seek immediate medical assistance
